About Newhaven & Seaford Sailing Club

Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club was formed in 1952 by a group of enthusiasts who sailed from Newhaven and later from the beach near the old Buckle Inn at Seaford. Later the Club obtained the rights to sail on Piddinghoe Lake some 5 miles away. Subsequently the present clubhouse on the beach was built, for which the club now has the freehold, and the freehold to the Lake acquired. The Club has an average membership of about 450. The Club regularly has 6 fleets: Laser 1s, Dart 18s, Squibs, Toppers, Optimists and a handicap fleet. Racing takes place on Sundays throughout the year (on the sea in Summer and on the Lake during the Winter months); a series is also run on Wednesday evenings during the Summer months. The Club hosts open meetings during the year, has a regatta at the beginning of August each year and holds a cadet week (open) at the end of August.
