Usage Guidelines

Keep the mark legible, give it room to breathe, and don't recolour outside the palette.

Do

  • Maintain clear space equal to the height of the sailboat icon around the logo.
  • Use the dark variant on dark backgrounds and the light variant on light backgrounds.
  • Keep a minimum width of 96px for the landscape lockup so the wordmark stays readable.
  • Prefer the SVG version wherever possible for crispness at any size.

Don't

  • Stretch, skew or rotate the logo.
  • Recolour the icon or wordmark outside of the brand palette.
  • Add drop shadows, gradients or strokes to the wordmark.
  • Place the logo on busy photography without a contrasting backdrop.

The SailHQ name, logo and wordmark belong to HQ Software Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 17341989. Press and partners may use these assets to refer to SailHQ. For anything else, email support@sailhq.app.

The RYA sets national sailing guidance. Each committee still owns its local rules, people and evidence.

Keep RYA affiliation details current.

The RYA is the UK national governing body for sailing and boating. Affiliated clubs can use its club support, training and technical guidance.

What the club record should hold.

Record the affiliation owner, renewal date and the RYA contact used for each club decision.

Meet UK data protection duties.

UK clubs must handle personal data under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. The ICO has guidance for small clubs and membership organisations.

What the club record should hold.

Record the lawful purpose, access owner, retention decision and member request history for each data set.

Track RYA qualifications.

UK clubs often track RYA courses. Powerboat Level 2 covers boat handling and seamanship.

What the club record should hold.

Use the exact RYA course title, completion date, provider and any expiry or club sign-off.

Use the RYA rules for UK racing.

UK events use the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing with the RYA National Prescriptions. The current rules cover 2025 to 2028.

What the club record should hold.

Store the rules edition, RYA prescriptions, notice of race and sailing instructions used for each series.
