Club Branding and Website

SailHQ feels like your club's own software, because it is. The burgee, the house colours, the modules you actually run, the public website that sits in front of it.

Members log in and see your club, not a generic SaaS template. The committee gets settings tight enough to keep the look right without needing a designer on hand.

Club identity

The club details, written down once

Your club name, short name, contact details and social handles live in a single settings panel. SailHQ pulls from that one record everywhere it needs them, so there is one place to update if the secretary's phone number changes or the club moves clubhouse.

Club identity

Full club name and short name (used in tight spaces like the mobile header and PWA splash). Club tagline shown on the public homepage and login page. Contact email and phone number for member-facing inquiries.

Address and social

Full clubhouse address and postcode, used for the public contact page and any printed correspondence templates. Facebook and Instagram handles surface as social links in the footer of the public site and the member portal.

Logo and visual identity

The mark on every screen

Most clubs have a burgee, a blazer badge, or a wordmark that has been on the boathouse wall for thirty years. SailHQ treats that as the brand, not as something to redesign. The logo upload accepts PNG or SVG, and the platform places it in the header of every page, in the email templates, and on the printed forms it generates.

Clubs upload two versions. The standard logo carries the full house colours and reads cleanly on a white background. The transparent version is used wherever the platform sits on a darker panel - login screens, the mobile header in dark mode, the PWA splash. SailHQ picks the right one automatically depending on the surface.

The PWA icon is a separate upload, because home-screen icons need a square format with the artwork pulled in tight. When members add the SailHQ portal to their phone home screen, they see the club's burgee in their app drawer alongside Whatsapp and the BBC News app, not a generic SailHQ blue square. The login page background image is the third upload - the harbour at high water, the Saturday racing fleet, whatever the club wants visiting members to see first when they log in.

Colour palette

House colours, applied across the platform

Six colours, set once in club settings, picked up everywhere. Buttons, links, badges, highlights, status pills, charts, the active state on calendar cells - they all read from the palette your club has set, so the platform looks deliberately like the club rather than accidentally like SailHQ.

Primary

Buttons, links, primary actions

Secondary

Supporting accents, secondary buttons

Success

Confirmations, paid status, signed-up duties

Info

Notices, hints, low-priority pills

Warning

Renewal reminders, gaps in the rota

Danger

Errors, expired insurance, blocked actions

The values shown above are the SailHQ defaults. Each one is set per club, so a club whose burgee runs in racing green and gold replaces primary and secondary with their own values and the platform follows. The status colours - success, info, warning and danger - usually stay close to the conventions members expect, because a green tick reads as success in any house style. SailHQ does not try to reinvent that.

Feature toggles

Switch modules on or off per club

Not every club wants every module. A small dinghy club running a tight Sunday programme does not need newsletters or push notifications. A cruising-focused yacht club may not run a formal duty rota. SailHQ ships every module switched on by default, and admins toggle off the ones they do not use.

Toggling a module off hides it from the navigation on both the admin side and the member portal, so members do not stumble onto a half-empty section that the club has decided not to use. Configure SailHQ to match how your club actually runs.

Duty Management

Duty types, roster calendar, swap requests, qualification gating

Push Notifications

Browser and mobile push for upcoming duties and announcements

Member Boats

Boat registry with sail number, class, storage and insurance

Weather Display

Live wind and conditions widget pulled from your coordinates

Committees Page

Public committee listing on the club website

Tidal Data

Tidal information alongside the weather widget (settings ready, live feed on the roadmap)

Newsletters

Member newsletter composition and send

Public Website

The full public-facing club site - home, about, membership, contact, news

Tidal data is not yet live

The settings are ready, but the live tidal feed remains on the roadmap. Weather data is live today and tidal information will sit alongside it when the feed is ready.

Public-facing website

A public website that wears your branding

SailHQ generates a public website per club - home, about, membership, contact, news, brand, features and logo pages, all styled with your colours, logo and tagline. The same content management runs the public site and the member portal, so an update lands in one place and shows up in both.

Home

Hero, latest news, upcoming events

About

The club story, history and committee

Membership

Tiers, joining process and public registration

Contact

Address, contact form, social links

News

Club announcements and race reports

Brand

Public brand guidelines and downloadable assets

The Public Website module has its own toggle. A club that already has a Wordpress site can switch the SailHQ public site off and run the platform as a member-only portal. Either way, member-only features stay behind login.

Common questions

Branding and customisation, answered

What clubs ask before they hand the platform to their members.

Yes. Every club gets a free subdomain on sailhq.app, for example yourclub.sailhq.app, which works straight out of the box with HTTPS. Clubs that want their own domain - members.yourclub.org or similar - can add the Advanced Branding add-on, which covers the custom domain, certificate setup and DNS guidance. The same SailHQ install runs underneath either way, so there is no migration involved.

Yes. Every major module has a per-club toggle in club settings - Duty Management, Push Notifications, Member Boats, Weather Display, Committees Page, Tidal Data, Newsletters and the Public Website. A club that does not run a duty rota can hide duties entirely. A club without member-owned boats can switch the boat registry off. The toggles affect both the admin side and the member portal, so the navigation matches what your club actually uses.

PNG and SVG work best. The standard logo and the transparent version both upload through the club settings panel. SVG keeps the burgee or club mark crisp at any size and is the recommended option if you have one. PNG is fine when SVG is not available - upload at roughly 600 pixels wide on a transparent background and SailHQ will scale it sensibly across the platform. JPEG works for the login page background image.

Yes. Branding settings are live - upload a new logo, change a colour or replace the login background and the change is visible to members on their next page load. There is no scheduled deploy, no cache to clear and no waiting for an admin to push it through. Most clubs review their branding ahead of the season but adjust mid-year when burgee colours get tightened up or a new sponsor partnership lands.
