About Island Yacht Club

Once a haven for smugglers and fishermen, Canvey Island has transformed over the years into a charming destination for maritime recreation, with the Island Yacht Club at its heart. Boasting a modern clubhouse with panoramic views of the estuary where members can unwind and socialise in a welcoming atmosphere after a day of sailing. The club provides mooring facilities for a variety of vessels, from sleek yachts to smaller dinghies. For those new to sailing or looking to enhance their skills, the Island Yacht Club offers a great location with access directly to the sea. As a members’ organisation, we are entirely supported by members’ subscriptions and their voluntary assistance which helps keep fees low. Recognising the importance of skill development and safety on the water, the Island Yacht Club offers comprehensive training programs for members. Novice sailors can enroll in sailing courses, where experienced instructors impart their knowledge on navigation, seamanship, and safety protocols. Throughout the season, the club organises a variety of race days and sailing trips along the coast. The Island Yacht Club is well known for promoting cadet sailing and run the cadets for the benefit of our children, in the hope they will develop the same love of the sea and enjoyment of sailing as we do ourselves. Our emphasis on cadets sailing is on gaining confidence, improving their sailing and having fun within a structured and safe environment. At the Island Yacht Club we have a full range of facilities for our members. Our compounds are secure and accessed by key only. We also have our own launching equipment, crane facilities, extensive storage facilities and a private slipway. Located in Smallgains Creek the moorings offer a calm, safe environment for boats. Smallgains Creek is well buoyed from The Ray channel for anyone approaching from Southend Pier. We have over 100 moorings with our own private slipway.
