The calculation

How the Portsmouth Yardstick works

The PY number adjusts elapsed time so boats with different expected speeds can race in one handicap fleet. The lowest corrected time wins.

Standard corrected time

Corrected Time (seconds) = (Elapsed Time in seconds x 1000) / PY number

Average-lap method

Corrected Time (seconds) = (Elapsed Time in seconds x 1000) / (PY number x Laps)

The admin around racing, kept in order

SailHQ does not replace your race results or scoring tool. Keep using dedicated scoring software such as Sailwave for race scoring.

SailHQ handles the admin around racing, including the calendar, series templates and duty rota. This calculator remains a free standalone utility. The race officer page shows how those parts fit together on race day.
