Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club

Our friendly club welcomes and encourages you into dinghy sailing at Stanborough Park. We have competitive dinghy racing on Sunday mornings (all year round) as well as mid-week non-competitive (leisure/cruising) sessions (Tuesday and Friday mornings usually from April to November). You can come along as a guest member and race with us for a few times, but it is currently only £15 per year to join. Competitive sailing offers an enjoyable, exciting challenge and is a great way to improve. We welcome all sorts of sailors (adults and their families including juniors whether competent beginners or the experienced) with all types of sailing dinghies (up to 16 feet long), but no catamarans. The lake and the rest of the park is owned by Welwyn Hatfield Council and managed by GLL/Better. Should you need to learn, or to have a refresher, the adjacent RYA recognised sailing school run by Better (Stanborough Park Watersports) teaches the basic skills of dinghy sailing leading to RYA qualifications. If you have a sailing dinghy (under 16 feet); you are welcome to bring it and launch. If you don't have a boat, or prefer not to bring yours, single and double hander dinghies are available for hire from Better at a special rate for racing or cruising with us. Usually, a RYA qualification is needed to race at WGCSC and also to hire a boat from Better.
