TSSC….Is based at Thornton Steward Reservoir, 5 miles west of Bedale, North Yorkshire, at the entrance to Wensleydale. At 35 acres, it is large enough to give good tactical racing, yet small enough to feel safe for the nervous or newcomer, as all areas of the water are visible from the clubhouse. TSSC is a small family club offering a wide range of sailing activities supported by safety boat services. We also offer SUP (standup paddleboarding), Canoeing, Kayaking and Windsurfing. The main sailing season runs from April to October, although members can sail and access the water throughout the year during daylight hours. Want to join us? Visit our membership portal and join online. The Club Our heated Clubhouse was built by members and has changing rooms with showers and toilets, a main lounge and kitchen area. Fully double glazed, the cozy viewing area has a clear sight of the entire reservoir for spectators to enjoy. The patio area to the front of the clubhouse has steps which double as seats leading to an enclosed grass children’s play area…. A distinctly pleasant place to watch the world go by! The attractive scenery, together with the footpath network in the local area make it a good place for those who do not wish to sail. Younger sailors are particularly welcome with special junior courses available throughout the season. The Club is fortunate in owning a number of dinghies for members without boats to sail. We currently own 2 new RS QUESTS, WANDERERS, a fleet of FUSIONS, LASERS, LASER 2K, TOPPERS and OPTIMISTS, with access to various other craft in which to sail and to provide training. 3 SUP’s and 2 Sit on Kayaks are also now available for members to hire through our online booking system. Safety Boat During the season a safety boat is scheduled for most Wednesday evenings during May to September, Sundays between May and October and some Saturdays. Our safety Boat is manned by members through a rosta system and all members are expected to assist with safety boat duties as part of their membership conditions, following appropriate training. As a member of the club, there are selected dates when members may camp on site.
