About South Windermere Sailing Club

South Windermere Sailing Club is an RYA affiliated club. Our friendly club runs an extensive sailing program to suit all ages and abilities. On Saturday mornings we have "Messing About in Boats" for juniors and adults, an excellent opportunity to have fun and build skills and confidence with safety boat coverage and informal coaching if desired. Junior training and "improver sessions" are also organised. Friendly racing is held on Saturday afternoons. A full race program operates on Sundays; this includes handicap racing, fleet racing, a number of long distance races and Pursuit Races. The Waterhead Race in June is our major open event. It is the only sailing race that covers the full length of Windermere and back. During August the club organises two separate weeks of sailing; "Messing About" Week (formerly Family Sailing Week) and Regatta Week. Members are able to store their boats within a dinghy park (within size and space limitations). We are open to all types of dinghies but have several recognised "fleets" including Flying Fifteen, Wayfarer and Handicap, K1, Laser and Singlehander, "Old Gaffer" - small traditional style boats, and Cruisers. Throughout the year we have a number of social events, from catered dinners and programmes to Jacob's Joins and tea parties. Our clubhouse galley offers very affordable food for members and £1 tea and coffee all day.
